Music Producer, Recording Artist, Mix & Mastering Engineer
Will Smith was still dominating the box office charts with "Men in Black" around the world when The OMT was making his debut in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, South Africa. Born Thabang Thorn Mashabela, The OMT faced obstacles from day one but has yet to let anything stand between him and his dreams. "Music is my life," he notes anytime someone comes at him about his aspirations. Resilience and determination have gotten him this far and he's ready to take things even further.
He rewrote and revamped Chris Brown's "Run It" at the tender age of eight-years-old and it was clear to him then as it is now that he had the skills to succeed. From there writing and music consumed him. By middle school he'd transformed from Thabang to The OMT and really started to come into his own. Come high school he was writing, recording, and self-teaching himself to produce and making waves along the way.
The 2016 release of "Star Gazing" allowed for the pieces to all start falling into place. The momentum of the single led The OMT to be cast in a film, Umzuzuku (The Hustle). A year later he was pulling Triple duty as an artist, college student and work. He split his time between classes and dropped a beat tape "Introduction To Alpha," and "No Warning." In June 2018 he topped things off with "Be4 The Tape," an album sounding mixtape chalked full of impressive production elements marking the highlight of his artistry.
Shortly after, The OMT outdone himself with "Sound Addiction Ep" by mid-November. Creating music audiences can relate to on a global scale, building the confidence of the masses one song at time. The June release, as well as Sound Addiction, are the definition of The OMT's musical mantra, "Music you can relate to." 2019 came with a bang, drip releasing an EP "Lift As You Rise" a collaboration initiative with Red Bull Music and Tall Racks Records. Lift as you rise was written, recorded, mixed and mastered in less than two weeks, showcasing The OMT's determination to create relatable music that builds your confidence.
His newest release "W.Y.S" (wise) joins the ranks of songs like "No Warning". A song that The OMT notes is autobiographical, "a parting gift." He notes, "The song established a spirit of self-determination, initiative and purpose," adding, "It became a song where I used all my abilities throughout its creation and completion, in terms of production, defining my sound, my writing ability to sustain the context of the song and a complete turnaround in focus and commitment in my artistry."
W.Y.S along with many of his songs, showcase a man who has been pushed time and time again. Only he's gotten up and risen above the hardships each and every time. In the long run, he hopes that his resilience will lead him down the same paths as his musical muses; Eminem, Drake and T.I. Respecting their freedom of expression, being true to self, and going the extra mile with each move they make, The OMT sees himself in them.
While they've inspired his music, it is his grandmother and aunt who have inspired his life. Raised by them, he works hard for them and aims to provide as best he can for his loved ones.
